5 things to think about

The Problem

How to help clients buy smarter and not necessarily more expensively the technology they need to deliver the solution they need.

The Solution

A 5 step list, if you take the time to work through these steps, you should come out at the end with a more detailed understanding of what it is you want and how to achieve it and more importantly what questions to ask to find the product you want.

Here are our top 5 thoughts before we buy anything

What do you really want to do?

Make sure you have thought through what you want to do and why, a lot of the technology out there will promise you everything but not deliver what you want or you end up spending a lot for functionality you don’t use.

Will it work in the UK?

While the main part might be advertised as working in the UK, double check this, we have seen at least One major brand sell a product that requires you to buy significant additional hardware (some not available in the UK) to make it work.

Does it look good?

Consumer technology is evolving fast and there is a lot of competition out there, so shop around to find something that works and fits with your style.

Can I afford it?

Check out the ongoing costs, especially with Cameras. Sometimes in order to get the advanced features (or even ones you think should be basic) you will need to pay an ongoing monthly fee. When you add this to your Phone bill, Spotify subscription, Netflix subscription, suddenly you can find yourself spending a lot more per month that you really want to.

Will it integrate with what I have already?

This one isn’t so important as nearly everything works with the Nifty Brain™ but with the proliferation of Smart Things and their associated apps. You might want to think about whether or not you want another app on your phone.

Then again, just because it integrates with your existing Nest thermostat, you might not want the cameras as they might not do what you need. So do you buy them just because they integrate with your Nest platform?

There are a heap more questions to ask yourself but if you cover off these you should be in a better position to set up your Smart home. Of course the most important one should always be…

When shall I contact Nifty? – Now of course..

Ok, a little cheesy we know but come on, it’s our blog and if we cannot be cheesy here, then where can we be?
